Our technology provides high-quality

LEDs and and power semiconductors. The company asserts that its large diameter wafers allow the industry to fabricate power semiconductors and LEDs using existing, standard semiconductor production sites, thereby cutting costs. According to the company, its performance data on 150mm wafers is “already unique” and it will now extend its lead to 200mm substrates.

Vice President Operations of AZZURRO, commented, “Our technology provides high-quality, crack-free GaN layers on 150mm standard silicon wafers with very good crystal quality and extremely low bow values. We chose Veeco’s K465i to produce these high efficiency GaN-on-Si stacks because of its performance, process stability, and high throughput. We believe our GaN-on-Si technology will trigger a new wave of highly efficient and cost-optimized components for the LED and power semiconductor industry.”

Jeff Hawthorne, Veeco’s Senior Vice President, MOCVD, commented, “The power electronics device market is forecasted by Yole Développement to be $25B by 2015, and GaN has the ability to make devices with higher efficiency and switching speed than traditional Si devices. Further, LEDs made with GaN-on-Si technology will enable lower LED costs. We anticipate that the demand for MOCVD tools for these GaN-on-Si applications will grow as technology moves from R&D into production. Veeco’s K465i systems offer key advantages for GaN-on-Si production, including low particle count and excellent yields, and we’re looking forward to continuing to support AZZURRO’s growing GaN-on-Si business.”

Total operating profit margin was 16.7% for the second quarter of 2012, an increase from 15.8% in the same period last year.  During the quarter, the Company recognized $10.7 million of expense relating to the previously announced Eaton Corporation (NYSE: ETN) transaction and certain legacy environmental issues, primarily offset by a $9.1 million gain from the sale of the Envirotemp FR3 fluid business and brand.  Excluding the effect of these items, total operating profit margin was 16.8% for the second quarter of 2012, up from 15.8% in the same period last year.

The LED industry subsidy program was restarted

Early in February, China launched a program to subsidize the LED industry for products including indoor downlight LEDs, reflective self-ballasted lamps, outdoor LED streetlights, and tunnel lamps. However, due to the quotes prices from some companies were considered unreasonable, the program was halted.

And in May, China launched new policy to promote energy-saving lighting and LED lighting, and 2.2 billion was arranged for new subsidies, the LED industry subsidy program was restarted.

Bidding companies' are required to have a capacity of at least 200 thousand pieces in downlight series and reflective self-ballasted lamp, or 30 thousand pieces in streetlight and tunnel light series , with minimum registered capital of 50 million Yuan. The subsidies would be deducted from the contract price negotiated by bid winners and government, so consumers would directly benefit from the program.

NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) has shown that China subsidized energy-saving lighting with 280 million Yuan in 2008, rallying 650 million Yuan in market demand.

the venture supplies LED lighting and service

The new venture, headquartered in Nanyan, Henan Province, will seek partners in all of the mainland’s provinces to drum up LED streetlight business, pointed out by the group.

GCL-Poly is listed on Hong Kong Stock Exchange, reporting net income of HK$4.2 billion (US$555 million at US$1: HK$7.7) on revenue of HK$25.5 billion (US$3.3 billion) in 2011. Before the cooperation in LED venture, the company has partnered with Hon Hai in clean-energy business.

Hon Hai pointed out that although GCL-Poly is a major strategic partner of it, the mainland Chinese manufacturer will not hold shares in the LED venture. Their cooperation will be based on the model that GCL-Poly bids for streetlight contracts while the venture supplies LED lighting and service. They share profits.

The two companies hope that the cooperation will maximize their share of the mainland’s clean-energy market by combining their respective specialties.

the change is saving us money and energy at the same time

Training seminar attendees explore multiple daylighting, electric lighting and controls solutions from Acuity Brands that focus on performance and energy savings. Coursework showcases daylighting solutions for suspended-ceiling applications, including applications in classrooms, offices and manufacturing spaces.

When consumers walk into their neighborhood Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) store, they may notice a difference as they walk down the aisles. Nail polish on cosmetic shelves may appear more vibrant and magazine covers may be easier to read. GE Lighting helped Walgreens recently upgrade its general lighting across 80 percent of its nationwide locations. The change is subtle, but noticeable to customers and to Walgreens' energy budget.

"Creating the very best shopping experience for our customers is our top priority, and lighting helps us achieve that goal," said Tim Schmid, divisional vice president of facilities management, energy and sustainability with Walgreens. "With our new lighting upgrade, colors appear more vibrant and more like they would in daylight, so customers don't need to second guess themselves in the cosmetics aisle. Plus, the change is saving us money and energy at the same time."

Walgreens new lighting initiative meant installing lamps with a higher color temperature and color rendering index (CRI), causing tones to appear more vivid and vibrant. Because different types of light produce different color temperatures, lighting can affect how shoppers perceive the colors of different products. Color accuracy at a store widely known for its cosmetics selection is critical.

Warm White panels providing clean useful light to ballpark employees in the backrooms

PolyBrite replaced the severely outdated T12 U-Bend Fluorescent tubes, which consume 78 Watts per fixture, with Borealis 2 x 2 LED Flat Panels, which consume only 50 Watts per fixture.  The modern Borealis LED Panels were seamlessly installed, with the Cool White producing a clean white light to enhance true colors in the concourses, and Warm White panels providing clean useful light to ballpark employees in the backrooms and workstations.

“The pleasing light of the Borealis panels instantly enhance the aesthetics and provide even light eliminating glare and shadows,” said Carl Scianna, President and CEO of PolyBrite International.  Mr. Scianna further noted that “Borealis LED Panels provide excellent visibility and color rendering for the workers and sport enthusiasts ordering fare, while delivering major energy and maintenance savings for the ballpark!  We are proud to be part of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority green initiatives for U.S. Cellular Field.”

Borealis LED panel lighting is designed to replace traditional, power demanding fluorescent and incandescent lights in standard drop ceiling and surface mount fixtures.  A highly reflective diffusion lens produces a soft, consistent light, effectively illuminating surfaces and ensures uniform and optimal light distribution without glare or pixilation.  Borealis LED panels sharply reduce energy consumption and are fully interchangeable panels that are simple to install and effectively eliminate maintenance costs associated with replacing traditional bulbs or faulty ballasts.  Unlike traditional fluorescent lights, the Borealis panels contain no mercury or hazardous gases, and completely eliminate disposal and recycling costs.  The Borealis Panels are dimmable, meet NEMA codes, are UL listed, and include Lighting Facts verified product.

the conventional LED based on equivalent die surface area

The study compared the environmental impacts associated with a CFL, an incandescent lamp, a 2012 Philips Endural LED and a 2017 LED (anticipating improvements in manufacturing, performance and driver electronics), by preparing “spider graphs”, with the impact of each lamp plotted on the graph. Lights with the least impact have their circle close to the center and lights with the greatest impact will be on the outer edges of the web.

According to the company, the unique patented technology rights have been under development by Seoul Semiconductor for over 10 years. The brightness has been dramatically improved by 5 times over the conventional LED based on equivalent die surface area. The company expects further improvements will increase this to more than 10 times existing LEDs.

Currently, the brightness of a power chip LED in mass production is around 100 lumens in warm white but this new product produces 500 lumens which is 5 times better. As an example, when making a LED bulb for a 60W household bulb replacement, generally, 10-20 LED packages are used, but when this new product is applied, the same brightness can be achieved with only 1-2 packages.

As exclusive partner, Technolite has been supplying Lumenpulse's range of LED lighting fixtures to the Singapore market since 2011. Technolite also offers technical and commercial assistance ensuring that architects, designers and engineers are actively supported. The move to expand the relationship will ensure the Lumenpulse brand and portfolio is strongly represented throughout South East Asia.
