they are cheaper in construction terms

Samsung is reported to release a series of ultra-flexible phones which packed in flexible OLED displays that can be twisted and folded, at some point during 2013.The company claims this new type of led high bay light, harder to break, and generally superior in every way to current glass-based panels. The firm is reportedly on the verge of rolling out mass production of the devices after years of speculation. The predicted growth is mainly driven by the rising importance of energy efficiency across sectors and the increasing demand for wireless lighting controls. The demand for lighting control systems is growing across various building types, such as airports, factories, hospitals and railway stations. Advances in R&D and manufacturing have enabled the introduction of numerous innovative lighting control products.

The popularity of wireless lighting control systems is increasing as they are cheaper in construction terms, and easier to set up, as no modification to existing structures is required. Patterns suggest that wireless control systems are set to overtake wired control systems in sales.Ballasts account for the largest portion of the lighting controls market, and the advent of electronic ballasts and the subsequent dip in price, coupled with their energy efficiency resulted in markets swaying in favour of electronic ballasts.Currently, Europe is the largest regional lighting controls market worldwide. It is closely followed by the USA, with Asia-Pacific offering the highest growth potential due to an increase in construction activity and mandatory government policies that require the incorporation of green technologies and adherence to various energy efficiency standards.

Speaking to reporters here showcasing Light Next ? an interactive lighting experience centre, Nirupam Sahay, president at Philips Lighting said, the growth drivers from the segment are the decline in LED prices, investment by government in energy efficient lighting systems and the quick return on investment (ROI).According to him, Philips is uniquely positioned in the LED lighting segment across the spectrum and the company commands 30 percent market share in the domestic lighting segment. For infrared sensor applications in mobile devices, Everlight announces its latest innovative led flood light which combines an ambient light and proximity sensor with an integrated IR transmitter in a compact DFN package. To optimize the sensitivity, the package includes a lens which was designed based on a highly precise optical simulation with 1 million light rays to produce an accurate model.

the photometric benefits of both direct and indirect lighting

The luminaire has the appearance of a glass and metal sculpture in switched-off state and is transformed into a luminous element of design when switched on, reminiscent of a roller-coaster with its m?bius form. The 30 wide-area light sources within were developed as part of the research project supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and each have a luminous surface of 18 x 6.5 centimetres. Efficiency of 20 lm/W with a transmission of 57% was achieved for the first time for transparent of led high bay light  "The next step for transparent OLEDs is industrial series production, and we'll be tackling that in 2014," remarked Ulrich Eisele, responsible for the OLED sector at Osram.

LEDs have no visible conducting path and feature secure encapsulation, until now a major deficiency with the transparent light source. New is also the possibility of defining a specific light distribution side with the transparent LEDs featuring distribution on both sides: in the one direction the light merely has a decorative function as it is weaker, but in the other it can be used functionally, for purposes of illumination. LEDs in this way unite the photometric benefits of both direct and indirect lighting. Panels and the luminaire itself were developed at the Osram location of Regensburg in Germany.

LEDs are expected to be the primary choice for transparent, wide-area light sources in the future, because in contrast to LED they emit wide-area light directly, so that efficiency losses from the conversion of 'point-sourced' to 'wide-area' light no longer occur. In addition, led flood light are not dim but absolutely brilliant and clear. They thus enable room partitions that when switched off are similar to transparent glass and in switched-on state light up opaquely. Mosaic windows that radiate without sunlight in the background also become possible. Another option might also be a luminous car canopy.

the warmth of the old bricks in the gateway

The renowned Good Design Award is bestowed by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), which has awarded products with brilliant designs for more than 50 years. Those products selected for the award are conferred the institute’s “G Mark” logo of distinction. The company has not disclosed the financial terms of the non-exclusive patent license agreement, but the agreement is expected to start to have an impact on led high bay light revenues in 2014.

According to the company, it has a substantial IP platform, comprising a total of 15 patent families covering advanced LED chip design, optimal low cost packaging, advanced colour mixing and control. The LED chip patents dating back to 2008/9 are now mostly granted in Europe and progressing through the international phase. The firm recently received its first Chinese patents and continues to further develop its chip IP.

James Mckenzie, CEO of PhotonStar LED Group PLC, comments, “Licensing our LED chip design IP to third parties will be a key part of our business going forward, and will be a clear demonstration of the substantial value in our IP.This agreement is a major validation of our LED chip design approach and is expected to produce LED chips with extremely high levels of chip light extraction, making them some of the lowest cost and most efficient chips available on the market,” adds McKenzie.Following the switch-over to Philips LED lighting for the indoor lighting inside the luxury hotel a number of years ago, the exterior of The Grand is now also being illuminated by LED lighting. The purpose of lighting the inner courtyard is to highlight the aesthetic features of this impressive building.

The LED lightline starts with a number of ground spots immediately below the hotel's monumental entrance gate, bringing out the warmth of the old bricks in the gateway. The asymmetrical line illuminates the building from below so that the light source does not shine directly into the eyes of led flood light the passers-by. The facade is illuminated by comfortable warm-white light that is directed in such a way as to prevent any glare. Because the light can be directed effectively, it only illuminates the actual building and doesn't spill out into the surrounding area. The luminaires are fitted behind the shutters and shine directly upwards, highlighting the authentic vertical elements in the facade. The terrace in the inner courtyard is framed precisely by the light and the overall design ensures an appropriate shadow effect.

business lighting has been switching to LED lighting at a healthy rate

Lextar's LED lighting is divided into two business lines, including accepting OEM orders from international lighting firms and cooperating with customers in different distribution markets. Lextar added that accepting OEM orders from international firms can help keep it up to date with market standards and trends while the latter business line can help the firm to understand the differences of each market.Lextar pointed out that even if the market price of led high bay light eaches a sweet spot, it is unlikely to stimulate explosive demand because lighting needs time to commercialize. On the other hand, said Lextar, business lighting has been switching to LED lighting at a healthy rate, causing demand for high-power COB products to grow rapidly. Lextar stated that growth in Japan and Europe has been the strongest.Osram announces major progress on silicon substrates in January. Potentially cheaper than sapphire, it appears possible the silicon substrates may be shipped in volume in 2013.
China turns to U.S. suppliers in an official backlash against domestic LED streetlight quality problems. The city of Chongqing, in June, completes China’s largest LED street lamp installation, using 1.9 million Cree LEDs in 20,000 lights on 119 streets. China momentarily claims four of the world’s five largest LED streetlight installations. The Osram non-IPO twists in the euro wind. LED investors and founders hoping for a headline exit story will have to wait until 2013. Siemens revised its IPO of Osram into a share conversion and then delayed it repeatedly as the Eurozone struggled.Eighteen months ago the cost of LEDs was prohibitive. Only this year did it become a viable option. We opted for GE Lighting’s second generation range of LEDs because not only did it meet all of John Lewis’ lighting criteria but it had a twist and lock capability which I wanted to embrace. It means we can re-lamp easily and just replace the LED chips.”

GE Lighting’s rapid development of the Infusion modules means Ayling has already decided to replace the Ipswich store’s second generation chips (fitted in November) with third generation chips next February. At 1500 lm (23 watts), the efficacy of the second generation Infusion LED modules is 65 lumens per watt but this will increase to 94 lumens per watt in the third generation LED chip fitting. Once installed, the new lighting benchmark in the store will be seven watts per square metre. The LEDs were fitted after Ayling conducted pilot tests of different lighting products at John Lewis stores in Oxford Street and Stratford as part of an 18-month process.Ipswich is a line in the sand as to whether as a business we will continue with LEDs or stick with ceramic metal halide,” he said. “The shop staff, customers, procurement and led flood light team are happy, so we won’t be going back to ceramics. LEDs are working for us. Lighting is the biggest step change needed for CSR targets. LEDs would make between a 15 and 20 per cent energy saving across the business.”

low energy production helping meet targets for reduced carbon emissions

The issue, though, has been in matching LEDs to the well-known light profile of tungsten bulbs, which the industry had thought it had solved. In the U.K., the BBC has been experimenting with LED lighting for production for more than three decades, and has recently used it on the sets of popular shows such as the hospital drama "Casualty." The BBC says it has led flood light developed tests that assess the color rendition of low energy light sources, and has stated it wants to send a clear message to the broadcasting community and to its viewers about the leading role that LEDs play in sustainable low energy production helping meet targets for reduced carbon emissions.

There has been similar enthusiasm for studio LEDs elsewhere, and they have been used in the U.S. for filming popular prime-time reality TV competitions such as "Dancing with the Stars," "America's Got Talent" and "American Idol. But now the EBU suggests it may be premature to embrace LEDs fully in the studio, even if they are now ready for the home. Problems that have been identified include inconsistencies between factory batches, insufficient brightness and inability to spotlight subjects, especially from a great distance. A further issue is that color LED lights are prone to color shifts and inconsistencies that can be especially evident when lighting people's faces.

The EBU is not suggesting broadcasters should avoid LEDs, but urges them to recognize that many new LED lights fail to perform as well as had been expected or promised. The EBU has come up with its own recommendation to help broadcasters assess how well their television lighting performs. Called R 137, and accompanied by a software-based analysis tool, this is led high bay light designed to quantify how well a set of test colors is reproduced when illuminated under a given light and viewed through a standardized camera and TV system. The software compares the differences in colors produced by the light source under test with those rendered under standard lighting conditions. It assigns a value from 0 to 100 to each light tested, and that value gives an indication of how much color correction would be required to produce acceptable results with that light.

half from the innate efficiency of LEDs

“The addition of these Adura Technologies solutions continues the expansion of the breadth and depth of our wireless lighting controls portfolio, which includes nWifi™ technology, the ROAM® streetlight monitoring system and the FIDO™ emergency monitoring system, and it further enhances our strategy of integrated and intelligent lighting and controls solutions,” said Vernon J. Nagel, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Acuity Brands. “Adura’s simple to use wireless technology coupled with our broad luminaire portfolio, Sensor Switch® occupancy sensors and led flood light system management software will allow for the creation of intelligent lighting systems that are simple to use while generating greater energy savings for our customers. We see wireless technology extending to almost all applications, including parking garages, industrial locations, retail settings, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and commercial office space.”
Adura systems are currently installed in 7 million square feet of commercial space, including 4 million square feet of covered parking facilities, contributing to a documented lighting energy reduction in lighting system renovations as high as 80%. According to U.S. Department of Energy figures, there are estimated to be 36 million covered parking lighting fixtures in the United States. New state and local energy codes being adopted based on updated standards will require covered parking lighting to use occupancy-based, multi-level lighting controls.Digital Lumens announced that it has rung in the New Year with 150% growth in its customer base and a further commitment from investors to support the company’s dominance in LED lighting. With more than 500 large-scale installations of its Intelligent LED Lighting System, more than doubling the number reported last year, Digital Lumens is now saving customers more than $25 million per year by reducing their combined annual energy consumption by over 250 million kWh.

According to estimates by Canaccord Genuity in the "Third Cycle V2.2" the overall LED lighting market grew 94% from 2011 to 2012. Digital Lumens grew much faster than the overall market as customers deployed the Digital Lumens solution – oftentimes with multi-site roll-outs – based on the company’s growing reputation and demonstrated energy savings. As the company continues to thrive and expand into new markets, its technology deployments now cover almost 50 million square feet of space across a range of commercial and industrial facilities worldwide. The rapid adoption is attributable to proven results:led high bay light energy savings, half from the innate efficiency of LEDs, and half from Digital Lumens’ patented integrated intelligence. The cumulative energy savings represent a 150% increase over the April 2012 announcement that the company was saving over 100 million kWh per year for its 200 customers.
