Lumex announces the global expansion of the QuasarBrite? To match this performance CCFLs would require a secondary lens resulting in additional cost and space investment. Additionally, QuasarBrite UV LEDs do not use the hazardous mercury material found in CCFL technology and are more durable in their design, thereby significantly reducing maintenance costs. Finally, Lumex’s UV LEDs have up to 70% lower energy consumption than CCFLs.  These factors combined allow Lumex’s QuasarBrite UV LEDs to provide up to a 50% cost savings compared to CCFLs.

The EcoStein LED Lighting System from Ecopower Inc.has been installed on the second floor of Covent Garden and will be led high bay light extended to retail areas of the first floor. And Stein Industries Inc.has partnered it to produce the system.

The EcoStein system has an automatic "daylight harvesting" system that uses sensors to raise or lower light levels, responding to the natural light coming through the windows. The controls for the system are wireless and can be adjusted for different zones of the building through an iPad.

According to some merchants, the new LED lighting system has even reduced spoilage in their fruit and veggies. And air conditioning costs also are down because the light produces half as much heat.

Robert Blenkinsop, a food scientist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, said cooler temperatures and the absence of some UV rays in led linear high bay light could help slow the spoilage of fruits and vegetables.

LED manufacturers were reconciled with patent cross license agreements

The idustry report indicates that during the 15 years between 1996 and 2010, there had been 168 led high bay light patent infringement lawsuits world-wide. Among them, 62 lawsuits were from Nichia, 28 from Philips, 20 from Cree, 18 from Epistar Group, 10 from patent licensing company.

However, most patent infringement lawsuits between international LED manufacturers were reconciled with patent cross license agreements . For example, Osram, Cree, Nichia, Toyoda Gosei and Philips have respectively reached LED patent cross license agreements in 2011.

The license provides Cooper with full access to the Philips’ LED-related patented technologies that Philips makes available to the lighting industry through its LED Luminaire and Retrofit Bulb licensing program.
