The LED industry subsidy program was restarted

Early in February, China launched a program to subsidize the LED industry for products including indoor downlight LEDs, reflective self-ballasted lamps, outdoor LED streetlights, and tunnel lamps. However, due to the quotes prices from some companies were considered unreasonable, the program was halted.

And in May, China launched new policy to promote energy-saving lighting and LED lighting, and 2.2 billion was arranged for new subsidies, the LED industry subsidy program was restarted.

Bidding companies' are required to have a capacity of at least 200 thousand pieces in downlight series and reflective self-ballasted lamp, or 30 thousand pieces in streetlight and tunnel light series , with minimum registered capital of 50 million Yuan. The subsidies would be deducted from the contract price negotiated by bid winners and government, so consumers would directly benefit from the program.

NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) has shown that China subsidized energy-saving lighting with 280 million Yuan in 2008, rallying 650 million Yuan in market demand.

the change is saving us money and energy at the same time

Training seminar attendees explore multiple daylighting, electric lighting and controls solutions from Acuity Brands that focus on performance and energy savings. Coursework showcases daylighting solutions for suspended-ceiling applications, including applications in classrooms, offices and manufacturing spaces.

When consumers walk into their neighborhood Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) store, they may notice a difference as they walk down the aisles. Nail polish on cosmetic shelves may appear more vibrant and magazine covers may be easier to read. GE Lighting helped Walgreens recently upgrade its general lighting across 80 percent of its nationwide locations. The change is subtle, but noticeable to customers and to Walgreens' energy budget.

"Creating the very best shopping experience for our customers is our top priority, and lighting helps us achieve that goal," said Tim Schmid, divisional vice president of facilities management, energy and sustainability with Walgreens. "With our new lighting upgrade, colors appear more vibrant and more like they would in daylight, so customers don't need to second guess themselves in the cosmetics aisle. Plus, the change is saving us money and energy at the same time."

Walgreens new lighting initiative meant installing lamps with a higher color temperature and color rendering index (CRI), causing tones to appear more vivid and vibrant. Because different types of light produce different color temperatures, lighting can affect how shoppers perceive the colors of different products. Color accuracy at a store widely known for its cosmetics selection is critical.

the conventional LED based on equivalent die surface area

The study compared the environmental impacts associated with a CFL, an incandescent lamp, a 2012 Philips Endural LED and a 2017 LED (anticipating improvements in manufacturing, performance and driver electronics), by preparing “spider graphs”, with the impact of each lamp plotted on the graph. Lights with the least impact have their circle close to the center and lights with the greatest impact will be on the outer edges of the web.

According to the company, the unique patented technology rights have been under development by Seoul Semiconductor for over 10 years. The brightness has been dramatically improved by 5 times over the conventional LED based on equivalent die surface area. The company expects further improvements will increase this to more than 10 times existing LEDs.

Currently, the brightness of a power chip LED in mass production is around 100 lumens in warm white but this new product produces 500 lumens which is 5 times better. As an example, when making a LED bulb for a 60W household bulb replacement, generally, 10-20 LED packages are used, but when this new product is applied, the same brightness can be achieved with only 1-2 packages.

As exclusive partner, Technolite has been supplying Lumenpulse's range of LED lighting fixtures to the Singapore market since 2011. Technolite also offers technical and commercial assistance ensuring that architects, designers and engineers are actively supported. The move to expand the relationship will ensure the Lumenpulse brand and portfolio is strongly represented throughout South East Asia.

we have to be involved today to help create the car of tomorrow

Each Dialight LED fixture is available in either cool white or neutral white color temperature and comes standard with a ruggedized, durable housing and shatter-proof lens that is highly resistant to shock and vibration. Designed for fast and easy retrofit from existing conventional lighting solutions, Dialight products run on a universal 100-277V power supply and are compatible with a wide variety of mounting options and accessories. Each fixture is backed by Dialight’s standard five-year, full-performance warranty for worry-free operation, even in the harshest conditions, including off-shore platforms, frigid temperatures and both tropical and arid conditions.

Temperature stability is the biggest challenge when it comes to making these innovative surface area light sources suitable for use in cars. "Since the success of this research we’re now tackling their future application in production vehicles", says Ulrich Eisele, responsible for the OLED business segment at Osram. "As the automotive industry plans and develops its future designs a long time in advance, we have to be involved today to help create the car of tomorrow."

Light is becoming an increasingly important factor for automotive design. While, up until a few years ago, manufacturers stressed the importance of a car’s shape more than anything, these days almost every make has its own distinctive “light face” – brought about by the aid of LEDs. Already, every second new car is equipped with Osram LEDs. To initiate further unique “bright” selling points, experts anticipate that in addition to point light source LED the related OLED technology will become an integral part in cars. OLEDs are surface light sources. The vast majority of lighting applications in cars requires surface light – especially lighting applications which serve visibility in road traffic such as indicators, rear lights or interior lighting. Osram has already come up with specific designs in collaboration with UnternehmerTUM, the center for innovation and business creation at the Technische Universit?t München.

The biggest challenge in developing organic light-emitting diodes for automotive applications is temperature stability. So as to be suitable for use in cars, OLEDs have to meet manufacturer specifications. In rear lights, for example, they must withstand temperature peaks of up to 85 degrees Celsius or even higher. When the first OLED products for lighting applications were introduced almost three years ago, they were temperature-resistant for no more than two to three hours. With its record-breaking OLED Osram has outdone this temperature resistance by a factor of a hundred. A further tenfold increase will make the first applications in automobiles viable. The current development is targeted in such a direction as anticipates this increase within the next few years. As cars are developed several years in advance, OLED elements may therefore be included in plans for the next automotive generations.

According to Epistar’s chairman B.J Lee, the company will invest NT$ 5 billion (US$ 166.7 Million) in expanding production, making it become one of the top two LED epitaxy manufacturers in the world, next only to Nichia.

buoyed by continued economic growth and infrastructure expansion

According to industry executives, 60 watt incandescent bulb occupies a major position in the traditional light source market, and currently the illumination of 8 W LED bulb cannot compare with it. However, 9W and 10W LED bulb can achieve the equal illumination of the incandescent bulb. Therefore, it will create potential market value.

Kelington Group Bhd (KGB), which dedicated in ultra-high purity gas and chemical infrastructure, has targeted to China's LED market.

According to Group president and chief operating officer Ong Weng Leong, the company already had LED jobs in China but expected to capitalise further on the growth prospects there. Meanwhile the company had also done jobs for companies in Malaysia, but felt that the prospects were no where near as great as China.

According to reports, Chinese lighting market reached US$12.2bil (RM39bil) in 2010, accounting for 15.4% of the global market share, buoyed by continued economic growth and infrastructure expansion. And the Chinese lighting market share can is expected to rise to 18.3% in 2015, with the total Chinese market value reaching US$20bil.

package color provides high contrast ratio for superior image definition

DOE’s recent report has estimated that switching to LED lighting over the next two decades could save the country $250 billion in energy costs over that period, reduce the electricity consumption for lighting by nearly one half, and avoid 1.8 billion metric tons of carbon emission.

According to Kenneth Ames, CEO of Seesmart ,"LED lighting is an effective and efficient solution for a wide range of lighting applications. Seesmart's new line of exterior LED lighting products is necessary to continue delivering our customers solutions. By insourcing the line's manufacturing requirements back to the U.S., Seesmart is working to expand America's manufacturing footprint in forward-thinking and environmentally friendly product categories.

Under Nichia part number "NSSM032", this product is a surface mount device for all weather applications. Waterproof and silicone potted, NSSM032 is easily integrated by user due to the thicker package size and lower position of leads. Plus, the black external package color provides high contrast ratio for superior image definition.

Nichia says that a higher level of outdoor screen image quality can be realized with NSSM032 even when viewed from wide angle or when long viewing distances are required for outdoor displays such as sporting arenas, advertisement billboards and retail displays. And currently, the new samples are now available for evaluation.
