Last year New Glasgow converted 59 of its street lights in a trial and found they produced a higher level of lighting. Once converted, the led high bay light change is expected to reduce energy consumption by 287 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

While New Glasgow proceeds with its conversion to LED lighting, other municipalities are still researching their options.

Westville CAO Scott Fraser said a study was conducted last year to see if it is cost-effective to have the lights converted and found that LED lighting would save the town money. Trenton, Pictou and the municipality of Pictou are all looking at conversion plans.

New Glasgow has close to 1,200 street lights to convert. They have contracted G.J. Cahill and Company to install the lights. The project will cost approximately $820,000 with the town receiving $120,000 from Efficiency Nova Scotia. MacDonald said the project will see a return on their investment in six years.

Malaysian company MyLED Group, which consists of led linear high bay light Master and MyLED Opto Technology, has injected $54.90 million to expand its manufacturing capability in solid state lighting and LED industry.

Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou has presented at the inaugural ceremony of Genesis Photonics Inc.'s new plant at the Southern Taiwan Science Park in Tainan City, and stated that Taiwan is LED traffic lights throughout the country and will install LED street lights and indoor lights in public led high bay light buildings in the near future.

According to Ma, green technology is one of the Cabinet's six key development industries. Efforts to develop the industry have turned Taiwan into the world's biggest LED lighting and molding suppliers.

Furthermore ,he pointed out that Taiwan trails only Singapore in the use of LED traffic lights, and that the next step is to utilize LEDs in street lights and indoor lighting devices.

David Chung, president of Genesis Photonics Inc., is confident about the future of the LED industry. He said that despite the led linear high bay light faltering global economic situation, which has resulted in a large stockpile of LEDs, the company will overcome the challenge by focusing on technological upgrades.

The city of West Asheville is under the process of upgrading Phase II of a streetlight with LED bulbs, from Monday to Thursday between the led high bay light hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. with no expectations of traffic disruption.

Date back to the spring of 2010, the City has successfully installed 700 lights in River District and Kenilworth neighborhoods in Phase I of the street light upgrade project. Phase II has a broader reach and will involve 2800 streetlights across West Asheville, Kenilworth and Oakley.

Phase I of the four year initiative began in May 2011 and has generated $32,000 in actual savings. City Council’s approval of the Green Capital Improvement Plan rounds out the triple bottom line impact of the project. The plan, adopted in the 2011-2012 budget commits all dollar savings from municipal energy efficiency projects to future energy efficiency projects.

The City of Asheville is the first in the led linear high bay light nation to implement this innovative financial model where all the energy savings pay for the streetlight investment. Once completed all four phases are expected to save $650,000 annually and 2628 tons of avoided carbon which is equal to the amount of carbon absorbed from 60,000 trees.

Many companies plan to sell LED lamps that produce as much light

The new legislation has declared that lamps that produce the approximate brightness of a 100-watt bulb can only use led high bay light to do so. In 2013, 53 watts will replace traditional 75-watt lamps to produce the same amount of light. The same rules are being put into effect a year earlier in California.

The survey also shows that only 13 percent of respondents said they were using LED light sources as replacements for regular bulbs, and 80 percent had heard of them. Only 68 percent were aware that the existence of the compact fluorescent lamp, or C.F.L.

Many companies plan to sell LED lamps that produce as much light as a 100-watt bulb.And currently, LEDs that create the equivalent of a 40-, 60- or 75-watt standard bulb have put into practice, although they can cost as much as $40.

But it seems that incandescent bulbs will not disappear in homes right now. As in years past, the led linear high bay light survey found that around 13 percent of those surveyed said they planned to hoard standard light bulbs.
