The LED industry subsidy program was restarted

Early in February, China launched a program to subsidize the LED industry for products including indoor downlight LEDs, reflective self-ballasted lamps, outdoor LED streetlights, and tunnel lamps. However, due to the quotes prices from some companies were considered unreasonable, the program was halted.

And in May, China launched new policy to promote energy-saving lighting and LED lighting, and 2.2 billion was arranged for new subsidies, the LED industry subsidy program was restarted.

Bidding companies' are required to have a capacity of at least 200 thousand pieces in downlight series and reflective self-ballasted lamp, or 30 thousand pieces in streetlight and tunnel light series , with minimum registered capital of 50 million Yuan. The subsidies would be deducted from the contract price negotiated by bid winners and government, so consumers would directly benefit from the program.

NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) has shown that China subsidized energy-saving lighting with 280 million Yuan in 2008, rallying 650 million Yuan in market demand.

the change is saving us money and energy at the same time

Training seminar attendees explore multiple daylighting, electric lighting and controls solutions from Acuity Brands that focus on performance and energy savings. Coursework showcases daylighting solutions for suspended-ceiling applications, including applications in classrooms, offices and manufacturing spaces.

When consumers walk into their neighborhood Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) store, they may notice a difference as they walk down the aisles. Nail polish on cosmetic shelves may appear more vibrant and magazine covers may be easier to read. GE Lighting helped Walgreens recently upgrade its general lighting across 80 percent of its nationwide locations. The change is subtle, but noticeable to customers and to Walgreens' energy budget.

"Creating the very best shopping experience for our customers is our top priority, and lighting helps us achieve that goal," said Tim Schmid, divisional vice president of facilities management, energy and sustainability with Walgreens. "With our new lighting upgrade, colors appear more vibrant and more like they would in daylight, so customers don't need to second guess themselves in the cosmetics aisle. Plus, the change is saving us money and energy at the same time."

Walgreens new lighting initiative meant installing lamps with a higher color temperature and color rendering index (CRI), causing tones to appear more vivid and vibrant. Because different types of light produce different color temperatures, lighting can affect how shoppers perceive the colors of different products. Color accuracy at a store widely known for its cosmetics selection is critical.

the conventional LED based on equivalent die surface area

The study compared the environmental impacts associated with a CFL, an incandescent lamp, a 2012 Philips Endural LED and a 2017 LED (anticipating improvements in manufacturing, performance and driver electronics), by preparing “spider graphs”, with the impact of each lamp plotted on the graph. Lights with the least impact have their circle close to the center and lights with the greatest impact will be on the outer edges of the web.

According to the company, the unique patented technology rights have been under development by Seoul Semiconductor for over 10 years. The brightness has been dramatically improved by 5 times over the conventional LED based on equivalent die surface area. The company expects further improvements will increase this to more than 10 times existing LEDs.

Currently, the brightness of a power chip LED in mass production is around 100 lumens in warm white but this new product produces 500 lumens which is 5 times better. As an example, when making a LED bulb for a 60W household bulb replacement, generally, 10-20 LED packages are used, but when this new product is applied, the same brightness can be achieved with only 1-2 packages.

As exclusive partner, Technolite has been supplying Lumenpulse's range of LED lighting fixtures to the Singapore market since 2011. Technolite also offers technical and commercial assistance ensuring that architects, designers and engineers are actively supported. The move to expand the relationship will ensure the Lumenpulse brand and portfolio is strongly represented throughout South East Asia.

we have to be involved today to help create the car of tomorrow

Each Dialight LED fixture is available in either cool white or neutral white color temperature and comes standard with a ruggedized, durable housing and shatter-proof lens that is highly resistant to shock and vibration. Designed for fast and easy retrofit from existing conventional lighting solutions, Dialight products run on a universal 100-277V power supply and are compatible with a wide variety of mounting options and accessories. Each fixture is backed by Dialight’s standard five-year, full-performance warranty for worry-free operation, even in the harshest conditions, including off-shore platforms, frigid temperatures and both tropical and arid conditions.

Temperature stability is the biggest challenge when it comes to making these innovative surface area light sources suitable for use in cars. "Since the success of this research we’re now tackling their future application in production vehicles", says Ulrich Eisele, responsible for the OLED business segment at Osram. "As the automotive industry plans and develops its future designs a long time in advance, we have to be involved today to help create the car of tomorrow."

Light is becoming an increasingly important factor for automotive design. While, up until a few years ago, manufacturers stressed the importance of a car’s shape more than anything, these days almost every make has its own distinctive “light face” – brought about by the aid of LEDs. Already, every second new car is equipped with Osram LEDs. To initiate further unique “bright” selling points, experts anticipate that in addition to point light source LED the related OLED technology will become an integral part in cars. OLEDs are surface light sources. The vast majority of lighting applications in cars requires surface light – especially lighting applications which serve visibility in road traffic such as indicators, rear lights or interior lighting. Osram has already come up with specific designs in collaboration with UnternehmerTUM, the center for innovation and business creation at the Technische Universit?t München.

The biggest challenge in developing organic light-emitting diodes for automotive applications is temperature stability. So as to be suitable for use in cars, OLEDs have to meet manufacturer specifications. In rear lights, for example, they must withstand temperature peaks of up to 85 degrees Celsius or even higher. When the first OLED products for lighting applications were introduced almost three years ago, they were temperature-resistant for no more than two to three hours. With its record-breaking OLED Osram has outdone this temperature resistance by a factor of a hundred. A further tenfold increase will make the first applications in automobiles viable. The current development is targeted in such a direction as anticipates this increase within the next few years. As cars are developed several years in advance, OLED elements may therefore be included in plans for the next automotive generations.

According to Epistar’s chairman B.J Lee, the company will invest NT$ 5 billion (US$ 166.7 Million) in expanding production, making it become one of the top two LED epitaxy manufacturers in the world, next only to Nichia.

buoyed by continued economic growth and infrastructure expansion

According to industry executives, 60 watt incandescent bulb occupies a major position in the traditional light source market, and currently the illumination of 8 W LED bulb cannot compare with it. However, 9W and 10W LED bulb can achieve the equal illumination of the incandescent bulb. Therefore, it will create potential market value.

Kelington Group Bhd (KGB), which dedicated in ultra-high purity gas and chemical infrastructure, has targeted to China's LED market.

According to Group president and chief operating officer Ong Weng Leong, the company already had LED jobs in China but expected to capitalise further on the growth prospects there. Meanwhile the company had also done jobs for companies in Malaysia, but felt that the prospects were no where near as great as China.

According to reports, Chinese lighting market reached US$12.2bil (RM39bil) in 2010, accounting for 15.4% of the global market share, buoyed by continued economic growth and infrastructure expansion. And the Chinese lighting market share can is expected to rise to 18.3% in 2015, with the total Chinese market value reaching US$20bil.

package color provides high contrast ratio for superior image definition

DOE’s recent report has estimated that switching to LED lighting over the next two decades could save the country $250 billion in energy costs over that period, reduce the electricity consumption for lighting by nearly one half, and avoid 1.8 billion metric tons of carbon emission.

According to Kenneth Ames, CEO of Seesmart ,"LED lighting is an effective and efficient solution for a wide range of lighting applications. Seesmart's new line of exterior LED lighting products is necessary to continue delivering our customers solutions. By insourcing the line's manufacturing requirements back to the U.S., Seesmart is working to expand America's manufacturing footprint in forward-thinking and environmentally friendly product categories.

Under Nichia part number "NSSM032", this product is a surface mount device for all weather applications. Waterproof and silicone potted, NSSM032 is easily integrated by user due to the thicker package size and lower position of leads. Plus, the black external package color provides high contrast ratio for superior image definition.

Nichia says that a higher level of outdoor screen image quality can be realized with NSSM032 even when viewed from wide angle or when long viewing distances are required for outdoor displays such as sporting arenas, advertisement billboards and retail displays. And currently, the new samples are now available for evaluation.

The Lumentalk technology turns existing electrical wiring into a stable

A crime lab requires very specialized lighting,” said Allen Hamm, Assistant Director of the JCCL.  “The Lusio LED fixtures deliver high footcandles and wide distributions to effectively cover large work spaces.  Lusio also delivers substantial energy savings and reduced maintenance costs, which played an integral role in the design of the new facility.”

The lighting system consists of Philips tubular LED lighting systems that are solar-powered by day and is powered by the Meralco power grid at night via a grid-interactive photovoltaic system. The photovoltaic system is made up of the solar panels along with the power converter, and is hooked up to the Meralco grid. With the system in place, the City of Mandaluyong is poised to save up to 51% in electricity expenses every year.

a leading innovator and manufacturer of high performance, architectural LED-based lighting solutions for commercial, institutional, and urban environments, today announced it has received U.S. Patent 8,179,058, issued May 15, 2012. The patent, the first of seven pending for the company’s Lumentalk? technology, provides a method of intuitively reading a traditional analog TRIAC dimmer in a digital fashion, which enables digital control of LED lighting over existing AC power lines, to maximize cost and energy savings.

The Lumentalk technology turns existing electrical wiring into a stable, noise-free high-speed communications link for data, enabling LED fixtures to be reliably controlled without additional wiring.  The technology eliminates the cost and disruption of having to open up walls and ceilings to install additional data cabling as part of a retrofit project – enabling a dramatic 30% reduction in total installation costs.

continues to develop exciting linear LED lighting solutions

Katona joins Next Lighting after previously working with Soraa Inc., serving in various management roles in engineering, marketing and business development since 2009.  He has been working with Led high bay light for over 13 years, having received a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara, a renowned center for solid-state lighting research.

“Tom brings a breadth of experience that bridges across both the traditional LED and lighting industries.  This breadth is essential in developing innovative products that provide unique value during this time of transition in the lighting industry,” said Randall Sosnick, Chief Executive Officer. “We are very excited to add him to our core team that continues to develop exciting linear LED lighting solutions.”

Sharp's LED luminaires are powered by its Zenigata chip technology which enables the delivery of extremely energy-efficient luminaires that offer higher color quality and better performance than comparable traditional source lighting products, such as incandescent, halogen, compact fluorescent, and even ceramic metal halide.

As compared to other LED lighting products, Sharp Zenigata components operate at high efficiency levels, combined with high levels of color saturation, yielding a CRI well above 90+. Most other Led linear high bay light products with comparable light output typically deliver CRI measurements in the low to mid 80s. Sharp LED luminaires are superior to traditional source lighting products as they consume less energy and produce less heat resulting in additional energy savings and reduced HVAC loads in buildings. In addition, Sharp luminaires do not give off UV light, which can cause color fading in fabrics and artwork and do not contain mercury, which can lead to lamp disposal issues. Sharp luminaires feature extremely long lamp life delivering approximately 50,000 hours of operation, which can significantly reduce the relamping of traditional lighting sources from 10 to 50 times over the life of the lamp.

LED lights to provide better light output while slashing the cost potentially by more than half

The company has closed $2 million of the Series A round led by the Oregon Angel Fund and Portland-based venture capital firm Pivotal Investments. CEO Ron Nelson, who also contributed to the round, said another $1 million has been committed and should close by the end of July. The Led linear high bay light company is developing a technology which will allow manufacturers of long-lasting LED lights to provide better light output while slashing the cost potentially by more than half.

The funding round will be used to continue development. The company expects to return to the market later this year for a Series B round of between $4 million and $8 million, which would help build a sales team and gear up for manufacturing, which Nelson said could start sometime in the second half of 2013.

LEDs emit high-intensity blue energy that, when emitted through various colored phosphors, converts to the warmer hues typical of home or office use. Pacific Light aims to replace the use of those phosphors with “quantum dots” — chemically created microscopic semiconductors that Nelson says provide stronger output that is tuneable to different hues.

According to the research team, they designed low droop and high efficacy Led high bay light by altering the direction of the crystal structure within semiconductor films. Droop refers to significant drop in efficiency at extreme currents. It is one of the major factors that retard the growth of the solid-state lighting market.

special scaffolding is needed to reach fixtures in the high ceiling

Security and energy savings were top priorities when considering new lighting to cover the nearly 2 million square feet (45 acres) of parking and garage space at Marriott headquarters. After testing competitive exterior garage fixtures, parking lot lights and contemporary post tops, Marriott selected GE's family of high-efficiency Evolve™ LED lighting systems.

"We preferred the exceptional output and uniformity of GE's Evolve LED lighting," says Jim Young, vice president, corporate facilities for Marriott International, Inc. "GE performed a comprehensive lighting audit of our existing system, provided photometric analysis with 3D renderings of the new system, and forecasted our energy and maintenance savings. GE excelled as both a trusted strategic consultant and solutions provider."

More than 230 Evolve LED Area Lights now illuminate Marriott's outdoor lots, while inside the parking deck nearly 400 Evolve LED Garage Light fixtures and several Evolve LED Tunnel Light installations-as well as more efficient GE T8 fluorescent lamps-help light the way for associates to and from the headquarters offices. Collectively, a 280-watt reduction per outdoor lighting fixture will cut electricity use by 580,000 kWhs a year, equating to $70,000 in utility cost savings.

In the foyer, special scaffolding is needed to reach fixtures in the high ceiling. Marriott would change the lights, which lasted just one to two years on average, only once a year at a cost close to $3,000. Maintenance savings will now add up after GE replaced 12 90-watt bulbs with 20-watt LED PAR38 lamps. Rated for 50,000 hours of life, GE's LEDs could keep the scaffolding away for up to seven years.

This can then be used as a selectable night light

The product is a compact power harvesting, storage, and lighting system. Electric power generated by solar cells during the day is stored in a nickel-metal hydride battery unit. This can then be used as a selectable night light and power source for charging small items of equipment, such as cellphones.

At present, 1.3 billion people worldwide*1 live in areas with no or intermittent mains electricity. This means that approximately 20% of the world's population (one person in five)*1 lives without enjoying the advantages of electricity. In most non-electrified areas, people use kerosene lamps, rechargeable lanterns, diesel generators, etc., to provide lighting. However, these forms of led high bay light equipment have numerous drawbacks, including toxic exhaust, low levels of illumination, and high running costs. Cellphone networks are, however, widespread in these areas, despite the lack of an equipment-recharging infrastructure.

Panasonic is committed to the reliable supply of clean and safe light and power. This commitment led to the production of its "Solar Lantern" in 2013-a portable lantern that provides non-electrified areas with the light that people need. Now the company has added "eneloop solar storage" to its lineup of products. The product comes with a straight tube LED and a bulb-type LED, which deliver bright, high-quality light, and the unit can also be used as a high-capacity power source for charging multiple cellphones. The new product will be marketed not only through existing sales dealers but also via international organizations such as NPOs and NGOs that are helping people living in non-electrified areas to develop a better standard of living environment.

the show has gained recognition with LED manufacturers

While lighting LEDs have grown in efficiency they have faced challenges in color quality and thermal management in small form-factors. Intematix phosphors enable white led high bay light comparable to conventional sources and ChromaLit remote phosphor systems have shown more efficient cooling leading to compact light bulb solutions.

According to Walter Yeh, executive vice president of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), one of the organizers of the show, this year, the show has gained recognition with LED manufacturers, evidenced by the rise in the number of participating companies.

A record 321 lighting equipment manufacturers are manning 782 booths at the show, up from 634 booths last year and 404 booths in 2010.  At the invitation of TAITRA, 1,200 buyers from 70 countries are expected to attend.

revenues attributed to LEDs for each display screen are dropping rapidly

According to the new report "LEDs: The 2011 Market Review," in 2011, the market volume for high brightness LEDs (HB-LEDs) reached $12 billion, a 4.3% growth over 2010. Although the demand for led high bay light (back light unit) systems is still growing, the demand for LED chips is falling.

Fewer LEDs are needed to realise a BLU and with the cost per LED also dropping, revenues attributed to LEDs for each display screen are dropping rapidly.

The production of BLU based on LEDs should continue to rise through 2014. The demand for LEDs to produce edge-lit BLU has peaked and will settle at about 70% of its maximum value in 2010-2011.

The European Photonics Industry Consortium has utilized the EPIC Bellwether Index of key companies to indicate the commercial development of solid-state lighting in general.  And the Bellwether companies showed rather different levels of performance in 2011. For example, lighting systems companies like Philips and Zumtobel developed well, while chip manufacturers like Epistar and Cree showed mixed results. Scale-back of led linear high bay light purchases due to slowing demand in the back lighting market, and the end of purchase subsidies by the Chinese government have  an important influence on Aixtron.

limit how often workers need to tend to the lights

Buzo praised the results: “It’s great lighting. It kind of surrounds you, kind of engulfs you, and it gives you a clear picture of led high bay light what you’re working around as far as your surroundings.”

The light fixtures are rated to last seven to 10 years, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Metz said. Their staying power should reduce operating costs and limit how often workers need to tend to the lights, which are 45 feet above the production floor.

The quality of the light is also an improvement, Metz said. “The color rendering of these lights makes it a safer work environment by providing truer colors to the workers’ eyes, as well as allowing workers to differentiate between colors easier,” he said.

Currently, the Middle East and Africa have faced most pressure in manage water supplies due to water shortages. And PlantLab has invented a way to grow plants under LED lights indoors, with all the water recycled within the indoor environment for reuse to solve the problem.

According to the company, plants are not that dependent on using the sun for photosynthesis. And they certainly don’t mind being separated from their pests. And they are fine with 90 percent less water, if they get it over and over again.

They use led linear high bay light to grow the plants and water them with a slow trickle that drains through the soil and is collected and reused. Computers capture over 160,000 reports per second to determine the exact amount, cycle, and color spectrum of light that’s optimal for the plant, as well as water, so that no resource is wasted and the plant is neither undernourished nor overexposed.

the development of standard specifications for the interfaces of LED light engines

According to Cree, compared with current lighting, the new installations will offer an energy saving between 45 per cent and 76 per cent, depending on the individual requirements of each Embassy.“Embassies are a great vehicle to showcase US innovation and influence global commercial led high bay light and industrial organizations to take action, consume less energy and advance energy efficiency.” Said by Greg Merritt, VP of coprorate marketing at Cree.

The League of Green Embassies was established in 2007 to reduce greenhouse emissions and showcase US technology as well as increase US exports. This new testing service offering will be available separately or as a bundle with other UL lighting industry services such as Energy Star, performance testing and safety certification.

Zhaga is an industry-wide cooperation aimed at the development of standard specifications for the interfaces of led linear high bay light engines. The organization creates interface specifications for 'light engines' with the goal to promote interchangeability of light engines made by different manufacturers; different lighting applications need different light engines.

which is the target of this legislation is more complicated to retrofit

It seems that government is focused on tackling the most powerful light sources rather than those that have viable or available alternatives. A 150W incandescent bulb is much more complicated to replace than a 40W bulb for example but government chose to phase out the higher power product led high bay light. With halogens, the GU10 equivalent may have been more a more sensible target, as these are prone to failure and can be easily switched out, the MR16 which is the target of this legislation is more complicated to retrofit.

There are two alternatives to the 12 V, 50 W, halogen MR16; compact fluorescents (CFLs) and LEDs. CFLs operate at between 12-14 W but as well as the issues around mercury release, also require the replacement of existing fittings due to their greater overall size. In contrast, LEDs can be directly retrofit into a halogen fitting and operate at a low 7W. LEDs also offer a considerable extended lifetime of up to 30,000 hours operation, compared to around 9,000 hours for CFLs or 2,500 for halogens.

The fact is, however, that LEDs are more expensive as an initial purchase. It would be a mistake to try to produce LED lamps that are at a similar price point to halogens because the two technologies represent fundamentally different approaches to lighting. Price matching LED lamps would only result in poor quality light output and premature failure, which in turn would mean low-levels of customer satisfaction and acceptance. Education is needed around these differences to avoid simple point-of-purchase price based decisions.

Yes, top end LEDs can now replace halogens, but are replaceable lamps really the way forward? Proper communication and education is needed around the overall value of product lifetime and reliability and this led linear high bay light requires a fundamental shift in thinking. It’s time to stop moving from one bulb to another in a drive to be more sustainable. We need to stand back and fundamentally re-think the way we light our buildings.

the number of sold retrofits is expected to treble within the next five years

The Parathom Classic A75 LED lamp offers customers energy savings of approximately 400 euros per lamp, when considering the entire service life. This lamp is the first LED-substitute for the 75W-light bulb available on the European market and can be used in standard E27-sockets. LED-retrofits – the name of which refers to the new source of light for the old socket – such as the Parathom Classic A75, offer simple access to LED technology for numerous customers. According to a study conducted by the management consulting firm McKinsey, the number of sold retrofits is expected to treble within the next five years and is anticipated to exceed the number of energy-saving lamps by the beginning of the next decade.

The rapid pace of the LED age implies a great challenge for manufacturers of luminaires: the large leaps in performance made in the field of light diodes, as well as the concomitant technical changes have led to the current situation in which virtually every new generation of LED products calls for an entirely new luminaire design. A solution to this situation is offered by standardised LED-modules. LED-modules are units of numerous jointly connected LED. So as to ensure that these are universally applicable, 170 companies in the lighting branch have already joined forces in the so-called “Zhaga Consortium”. The consortium defines certain interface specifications for LED-modules as well as the corresponding electronics required (the control gear). Together these form what is called the “LED-Light-Engine”. In the course of this, mechanical, thermal, photometric and electrical interfaces are taken into account. With these defined parameters, the Zhaga-certified Light-Engines form the counterpart to the standardised lamps of the traditional world of light, such as light bulbs or fluorescent lamps. Specified basic data facilitates planning certainty for the manufacturers of luminaires, providing them with more flexibility, as they are now able to focus on their core business: the actual development of luminaires.

OSRAM will be presenting the first Zhaga-certified light engine at Light+Building 2012: the round LED-module Prevaled Core Z2 for spot- and downlights, which is approximately ten times more efficient than an incandescent lamp and provides performance levels of up to 108 lm/W. What is more, the rod-like LED-modules Prevaled Linear and Prevaled Linear Slim will also be introduced for use in offices, in addition to application in industrial buildings. Their LED-points of light are positioned so close together that the source of light radiated is particularly uniform and evenly distributed.

The light output of a battery-powered LED is continuous

Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has scheduled to focus eight rising industries including Chinese herbal medicine, telecommunications, electric vehicle, renewable energy, business services, LED lighting, metal materials, biotech and medical equipment, on the agenda in the regular talks on industrial cooperation with mainland China.

The new LED light bulb is smaller, and the shape of its globe (semispherical cover) is closer to a sphere. By employing an LED module (light source) having a chip-on-board (COB) structure, the light distribution angle realize 180°. What’s more, the new product, which is equivalent to a 25W MiniKrypton light bulb, is made by using Rohm's own light-diffusing material for its globe.

Recently, over 800 new Array Par 20 lamps and over 80 MR-16 HO lamps were installed as the first phase of a multi-phase relighting of a major Miami Beach hotel. Nexxus Lighting's Array? Lighting LED light bulbs utilize a patented design and proprietary Selective Heat Sink (SHS) Technology. Selective Heat Sink is an innovative and patented approach to thermal management which allows the lamps to achieve superior efficiency levels and an average life of more than 50,000 hours. Array lamps are fully dimmable on most standard incandescent dimmers and provide up to 80% energy savings compared to conventional incandescent and halogen bulbs.

Professional cameras use a xenon strobe light to produce a brief burst -- or flash -- of light, but the lighting on smartphone cameras is typically provided by an LED. The light output of a battery-powered LED is continuous, and much lower in intensity than a flash, leading to longer exposure times and darker, blurrier pictures.

the energy of the sun as effectively as possible means reduced electricity demand

René Penning de Vries, CTO at NXP Semiconductors, says: “We’re very proud to have developed this solution in collaboration with Philips Lighting. By making Solar Gen2 as power efficient as possible, we’ve produced something which is genuinely groundbreaking while remaining affordable in those countries that can benefit the most from it. Harnessing the energy of the sun as effectively as possible means reduced electricity demand and a more robust infrastructure.”

The key to the breakthrough lies in the combination of new High Brightness LEDs along with unique patented optics to create the most efficient and robust outdoor lighting system. On top of that, an intelligent charge controller, developed by NXP Semiconductors N.V., ensures the transfer of a maximum amount of power from the solar panels to the batteries. A smart way of charging and discharging maximizes battery life and light levels can be dimmed based on a self learning intelligence and a history log.A further benefit of the new solution is that it is future proofed by the inclusion of the Philips LEDGINE, which allows LED modules and drivers over time to be simply replaced and upgraded. In addition, Solar Gen2 includes theft prevention.

I am proud that Elemental LED played a part in the transformation

The LED lights on the green RV work in conjunction with two solar panels installed on the roof of the Airstream, and a battery with a monitor so Reinhardt and Daugherty can track their energy use.The interior of the RV is outfitted with dimmable LED strip lights and diffusers in the kitchen, dinette, bathroom and reading areas. LED puck lights on 12V dimmers create general area lighting throughout the interior of the RV.

Waterproof color-changing LED strip lights outfit the exterior of the RV, creating a dramatic glow on the Airstream’s metal finish during the evenings.Elemental LED teamed up with On the Green Road in 2010 when Reinhardt and Daugherty were beginning the Airstream retrofit. “It has been amazing to see an outdated 2003 Airstream gutted and transformed into a sustainable living space. It is definitely an eco-traveler’s dream and I am proud that Elemental LED played a part in the transformation,” says Elemental LED Marketing Manager Charlotte Dick.

RCA said at CES that it will manufacture LED bulbs as part of a larger home theater announcement. It developed a "chip on a board" led linear lighting that uses a single efficient LED light source, rather than several smaller ones. That design optimizes the energy efficiency of the bulb, said Bob Hatefi of RCA licensee BDC in a statement.

Dedicated lighting companies are also going to be at CES. For Switch Lighting , it will be showing off its line of LED bulbs.

LED lighting as a package to owners of homes

According to an October survey of 303 adults conducted for lighting company Osram Sylvania, there are still a third of Americans, who say they prefer traditional bulbs. One in eight, or 13%, say they'll stockpile Edison's 100-watt led high bay light.Maybe for American, Edison's 100-watt bulbs are too impressive to phase out immediately, but it’s tendency, so let’s wait and see what happens in New Year.

According to the company, the major electronics maker's business fields as of Sunday are now divided into three groups — consumer, components and devices, and solutions — after it restructured five segments. Its 16 divisions were consolidated into nine, including appliances, energy and health care, under the three business fields.

The move is aimed at expanding Panasonic's energy-solutions business by selling energy-saving products such as solar batteries and LED lighting as a package to owners of homes, retail shops and buildings, an operation the company is trying to establish as one of its group pillars amid slumping television sales.By building on the strengths of Sanyo's energy business and Panasonic Electric's housing-equipment operations, the company aims to grow its "comprehensive solutions" business into a ¥1 trillion revenue source by 2018.

Huga Optotech ended unpaid furlough practice when New Year comes, signaling that Taiwan’s LED industry is getting out of its worst days. Its Taiwan’s only publicly held LED maker to have its employees take unpaid leaves in October, 2011, to cope with slumping market for backlights. Huga Optotech’s president, C.N. Huang, pointed out that the firm decided to end the practice in late December in anticipation that market would pick up in March 2012.

the space with a stitched screen

whose work includes renovations of historic Art Deco buildings, high-end homes in Palm Beach, Mexico, Paris and Morocco – was inspired by the horizontal configuration of the covered terrace and the trajectory of a massive roof drain on the ceiling. Rather than conceal these elements, he decided to honor them by hanging a LED-lit macramé wall along the drain’s trajectory to help shield the led high bay light from the wind blowing in from the terrace, while at the same time enclosing and defining the space with a stitched screen. However, Wall’s search for concealed LED lighting that could rest on top of the drain, highlighting the macramé wall from the top and bottom, proved to be a challenge…until he discovered CSL’s energy-efficient product line.

“The scale and the form of CSL’s lighting worked well to offset the cubic nature of the space,” said Wall.

CSL’s sponsorship of the 2011 ELLE DéCOR Showhouse comes at an important time for the lighting manufacturer, which launched an award-winning LED Eco-Downlight collection in 2011 and has plans to expand the line in 2012.Like many designers, James came to us with very specific program requirements,” said Steve Nadell, president of Troy-CSL. “It gives us a lot of satisfaction to know that CSL is the go-to source for precision-engineered, high-performance LED lighting. We hope our presence at the ELLE DéCOR Showhouse gives concealed LED lighting more exposure, which has often been overlooked in concept home circuits due to its hidden nature.”

ELLE DéCOR will unveil the 2011 Showhouse as an official satellite exhibit of Design Miami/ during Art Basel beginning Saturday, Dec. 3 and continuing until Dec. 19. A group of 10 notable designers hand-selected by ELLE DéCOR’s editorial team has transformed a blank nearly 9,000 square-foot penthouse space located on Paramount Bay’s 43rd floor. Admission tickets are $25 and benefit Miami’s Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH). Visit elledecor.com/showhouse for tickets. Exclusive coverage of the concept house will be published in ELLE DéCOR’s April 2012 issue.

effective control of lighting energy consumption is critical in gaining LED certification

The LEED rating system is based on accepted energy and environmental principles and strikes a balance between known, established practices and emerging concepts,” Mocherniak noted. “led high bay light is the single largest energy consumer in commercial buildings, and effective control of lighting energy consumption is critical in gaining LED certification. Clearly, addressable dimming controls can be an indispensable tool in achieving this goal.”

According to the research, the secret to controlled growth of the five-period indium GaN/GaN (InGaN/GaN) multiple quantum wells that comprise the emissive layer in the pyramidal-shaped LED array is a thin-film titanium pre-orienting layer that is similar to the GaN hexagonal crystal structure.

Following the pre-orienting layer and the initial low-temperature GaN layer (LT-GaN) is a hole-patterned silicon dioxide (SiO2) layer that further defines the nucleation sites for the emissive-layer growth stages using a local heteroepitaxy process.

reached an agreement to develop horticultural factory technologies

It’s noted that Philips and Osram have also ventured into the emerging market. In the first quarter of 2011, Everlight and some 10 manufacturers including Philips reached an agreement to develop horticultural factory technologies, including plant-grow lights, plant nutrition liquid, led high bay light and environmental humidity control.

Recently, Formosa Epitaxy Inc. (FOREPI) is reported to regained Samsung’s contracts for LED chips used in TV backlights since October, and the South Korean company will gradually move the contracts originally placed with Epistar Inc. back to FOREPI over the next three years. Both Epistar and FOREPI have declined to comment. However, FOREPI executives said that the company has landed more contracts in November than October from South Korean buyers by an unexpectedly high margin.

FOREPI used to be Samsung’s major supplier of blue chips many years ago. But Samsung had ended business with led linear high bay light in no time and shifted contracts to Epistar, when FOREPI entered into alliance with LG.Currently, simultaneously contracted by Samsung and LG, FOREPI is estimated to be the primary beneficiary in Taiwan of South Korea’s LED contracts.

the project will see a return on their investment in six years

Last year New Glasgow converted 59 of its street lights in a trial and found they produced a higher level of lighting. Once converted, the led high bay light change is expected to reduce energy consumption by 287 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

While New Glasgow proceeds with its conversion to LED lighting, other municipalities are still researching their options.

Westville CAO Scott Fraser said a study was conducted last year to see if it is cost-effective to have the lights converted and found that LED lighting would save the town money. Trenton, Pictou and the municipality of Pictou are all looking at conversion plans.

New Glasgow has close to 1,200 street lights to convert. They have contracted G.J. Cahill and Company to install the lights. The project will cost approximately $820,000 with the town receiving $120,000 from Efficiency Nova Scotia. MacDonald said the project will see a return on their investment in six years.

Malaysian company MyLED Group, which consists of led linear high bay light Master and MyLED Opto Technology, has injected $54.90 million to expand its manufacturing capability in solid state lighting and LED industry.
